Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Elian Haan, Founder of Better Life Basics, located in Gun Barrel City, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a wellness and life coach specializing in midlife and transformation coaching. My clients are people that suffer from anxiety and depression, feel stuck after 50, experience symptoms of trauma or PTSD, or are dealing with addiction and recovery. I work with clients one on one virtually or in my practice, as well as in monthly virtual groups.

Tell us about yourself

My career has always been about helping others look and feel better, motivated by the results and changes I have seen in my clients and patients. My early years were in fitness and wellness, group exercise, and personal training. In the last two decades, my focus shifted to a more inwards-focused mind-body-spirit connection as I started to teach more yoga and tai chi and help others as a life coach. I am specialized in trauma-informed care, pain management, and anxiety intervention, and a certified Life and Master Coach.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to help many people move with, move through, move forwards, and upward during traumatic and troubled times in their lives. I have had a yoga and fitness business and studio since 2005 and a private coaching practice since 2021. For years I worked as a coach at an addiction facility and saw many happy accomplishments there as well. I love getting great feedback, referrals, and happy testimonials.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being able to consistently generate leads, consistency in outreach, social media, and content creation, and being able to stick to a plan, desired goals, and outcomes.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be prepared with a vision, a mission statement, a reasonable plan with set goals you can stick to, and needed business tools such as cards, social media sites, and a funnel or website.
  2. Be prepared to work 24/7 in the first year of your business.
  3. Learn from mistakes and move forwards right away without creating doubt.
