What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a kombucha brewery based in Los Angeles. We make craveable, crushable kombucha that is traditionally brewed, live and raw.
Tell us about yourself
In another life, my partner and I were touring musicians. After years on the road, we realized the touring life wasn't for us, and so we transitioned off the road in pursuit of a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. Around the same time, a close family member was diagnosed with cancer at a young age. It was through her battle that we discovered kombucha and started brewing it at home. Kombucha is known for its potentially anti-cancerous properties, but the only brand on shelves came up lacking in the taste department. We set out to create a kombucha that was not only good for you but also easy and fun to drink because we knew that more people would reap the benefits of this wonderful drink if they could count on it tasting as amazing as it made them feel.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Seeing our kombucha distributed across the US, in every contiguous state, and reaching more people than we ever dreamed of reaching.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It's all pretty hard! There are so many ups and downs, so the biggest challenge has definitely been the mental game. It's caused us to become much more intentional about how we spend our time, especially our time away from work.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Hire slowly, fire quickly. Find like-minded people/brands you can partner with to help each other grow - other business owners are not your competition, necessarily. Experience pays for itself. Don't be afraid to pay a bit more for it!
