Leading People to Be Their Best - BestU

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kevin Miller, Founder of BestU, located in Tampa, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I provide personal and professional coaching and consulting to people and organizations tired of the status quo and genuinely motivated to be their absolute best. My diverse career background, proven skills, and past success make me a unique and powerful good fit for the right clients.

Tell us about yourself

After years stuck in large organizations, I realized my superpower was in being entrepreneurial. I love working with people and dislike working for people. My coaching and consulting is a together event, not a solo one. I believe in constructive disruption. Some things need to be broken before they can be fixed. Big problems need big, new solutions. I love critical thinking, problem-solving, team building, learning by doing, and encouraging others to start new and exciting things, and I'm a cheerleader against quitting. Finishing well is important but rare. My greatest joy is helping others: start something new, overcome their negative self-talk, push through the urge to quit, and see them finish strong.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating something from nothing always brings me great pride. Envisioning a better future, setting goals and a plan to realize them, and then reaching the goals and experiencing the life I pictured is a huge accomplishment. Being a business owner affords me the freedoms I desire to spend time with my family and enjoy life now while I'm working, not having to wait until I stop working.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

A good business owner is very conscientious. The consequence of being conscientious is there seems to always be something to work on or improve. Being able to regulate that passion for quality and excellence is difficult. So, it's important to work hard and allow, sometimes make myself, play hard to get away and be restored. Juggling the business, the family, hobbies, and my health is always a work in progress.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Create a simple but thoughtful business plan that answers how you can live running your business. Count the cost.
  2. Commit to going all-in on your business. Devote yourself to your business. It can't be just a side gig or a hobby. Pivot but never quit.
  3. Get help. Don't try to do everything yourself. You're not that good at everything, and you don't have to be in control of everything. Delegate and trust others.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I love biking, beaches, and boating. I lead an annual (29th year) bike ride across the state of Florida each fall. 220 miles from the east coast to the west coast of Florida.
