Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Benita Williams, CEO of Benita Williams Enterprises LLC., located in Siler City, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the CEO of Benita Williams Enterprises LLC, a boutique coaching company. "I help busy women leaders who feel drained to reconnect with their deepest desires to rediscover their significance so they can reemerge and make a greater impact outside of work." Additionally, I offer corporate self-leadership trainings and wellness retreats designed to help companies, executive teams, and leaders with enhanced wellness solutions in order to stay competitive. I believe self-management is essential to peak performance.

Tell us about yourself

My expertise stems from over 20+ years as an Executive Leader within the nonprofit sector. As a high achiever, I often neglected my own needs until, one day, I hit the wall (reached my breaking point). Through this personal and daunting experience came my mission to help others overcome chronic stress and burnout while still excelling at high levels, both personally and professionally. I am motivated daily to live out my truths by helping others do the same.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is how much freedom my business has afforded me. As an entrepreneur, there are no guarantees or shortcuts. You have to wake up every day with purpose and be true to yourself as you show up to serve others. I am excited about my purpose and wake up every day grateful for another opportunity to serve at my highest level. However, what I absolutely love is that I get to do it on my terms. I don't have to trade time for money. I know time is far more valuable than money, so I make sure to make the best use of my time where it counts by spending it with those who matter the most and doing what I love to do the most (like writing Bestselling books). When you get to do what you love to do each day, and you get paid well for it, that's the ultimate freedom entrepreneur.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For many, one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is knowing when and how to delegate responsibilities. Most business owners start out as solopreneurs. This means that a lot of the day-to-day responsibilities fall on the owner. Because my business deals a lot with time-management techniques, I learned early on how to break down my responsibilities into 3 categories: the things that I am to do, the things I am to delegate, and the things I am to delete from my "to do" list. Delegating responsibilities can be a difficult task, but not delegating responsibilities could prove detrimental to your health as well as your business. Begin with the end in mind, meaning go into your business knowing that you are going to begin offloading certain responsibilities as soon as possible.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Three tips I would give to anyone thinking about starting, running, and growing a business are:

  1. Be sure you know why you are in business. Do what you love to do and find a way to get paid for it because you are the best at it.
  2. Hire a team sooner rather than later. One of the very best decisions I could ever make when I started my business was to hire a small team as quickly as possible to help me fulfill my services. This advice may be contrary to popular opinion, but it has worked for me, and it has allowed me to stay in my zone of genius while allowing others to do what they do best within the business. As the CEO, I don't have to do it all, but I do know who I need to hire to do what I need to have done. In return, it has helped my business to grow quickly and with less individual effort.
  3. Keep praying and faithing. Having a deep sense of purpose and connection spiritually had kept me from getting overwhelmed, stressed out, or overly exhausted, all of the things that I struggled with when I was working a job. I was determined not to bring those attitudes and behaviors into my business. I wanted to establish a culture of faith and calm. To be proactive when situations arise rather than reactive. To come from a place of grace and gratitude rather than hustle and grind. I believe when you operate your business from a place of faith and abundance, you will have great success.
