Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey by launching a wellness and fitness business, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michele Lewis, owner of Fit4Mom SF Peninsula.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We provide fitness and community for moms of all ages and stages of motherhood.
Tell us about yourself
I started my work-life in finance before having kids. But when my first daughter was born, I couldn't imagine letting her be influenced primarily by another adult, so sending her to daycare or hiring a nanny was not an option.
The Fit4Mom franchise location in San Carlos was for sale, and even though it seemed like a massive leap for a new mom, it was more enticing than returning to my desk. I love that my kids (2 girls) grow while watching me love my work and seeing me in a leadership position. They also grew up knowing that exercise can be fun! The women who come to class every day inspired me, pushing through an emotional and physical barrier to cheer each other on in motherhood. I also love toddlers!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I can balance work and home life with personal enjoyment. It's a constant struggle, but I feel like showing the moms that come to the class how important it is to pay attention to themselves is a critical mission.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
All the legal stuff!
What are the tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Love what you do, know your customer, and be ready to stay flexible.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Always make time for exercise!
