What's your business, and who are your customers?
Bean Box helps people discover the joys of specialty coffee through coffee-tasting subscriptions and gifts sourced from more than 50 artisan roasters across the United States.
Tell us about yourself
I'm a software engineer by training and fell in love with the many challenges of building an e-commerce business: sourcing, manufacturing, inventory, catalog, commerce, fulfillment, etc. I'm motivated by the fact that our products bring joy to our customers every day!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating a truly unique coffee product growing Bean Box to reach hundreds of thousands of customers and making a dent--by way of product innovation--in one of the largest consumer markets in the world.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I have two answers. First, managing capital in a way that allows you to grow. Second, supporting a high-performance team as a manager, colleague, and leader.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start small and grow organically.
- Don't overcomplicate your business.
- Prioritize your customers, not your business model.
