What's your business, and who are your customers?
Many subscription businesses suffer from high member churn rates. I help them stop their subscribers from canceling.
Tell us about yourself
I get to work with some of the smartest business people in the world, helping them fix one small area of their business where I have deep experience and expertise.
Since 1993, when I took a job as a bookkeeper for a consulting firm that works with subscription businesses, my entire career has been working with subscription businesses. I purchased that company in 1999 and have been focused on growing subscribers and subscription-based businesses ever since.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
This is a challenge as there have been so many things I’m thankful for. Launching a subscription business in 2006 and exiting it in 2012 after it was acquired was a great accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Keeping up with the never-ending series of demands. It’s always difficult to say “no.” With the flood of emails, LinkedIn messages, DMs, and everything else asking you to pay attention, I find I’ve got to say “no” more than ever.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Choose a subscription model-based business where each customer transaction creates a series of recurring revenue payments.
- Build a great team of leaders around you.
- Get to the truth through accurate and appropriate business reporting.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
My wife and I triathlon, recently completing the Ironman 70.3 in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho.
