Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in candle-making but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Natasha Ellis, Founder of Be Nude Candle Co., located in Addison, IL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Be Nude Candle Co. is a DIY candle studio and retail candle shop. We offer candle-making workshops where our guests can come out and craft their own candles that they can take home with them. We offer a variety of colors, scents, botanicals, and vessel colors that gives each candle made a unique customized look.
Tell us about yourself
I am a 28-year-old entrepreneur. I started making candles in college, and it was a passion that grew with me and eventually led me to open a candle studio. A new concept in the Chicagoland area. Positive feedback from customers is what motivates me. There is no greater feeling than seeing my dreams come alive and my guests happy.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has definitely been opening my brick-and-mortar location last July. I never imagined I could ever be as successful as I have been so far. It gets me extremely emotional looking at how it has not even been a year yet, and so much growth has occurred.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest things that are that come with being a business owner are bills and trying to find employees that represent you. The harsh reality is no one will ever care and nurture the business like the owner themselves and try too hard to make sure every customer just has an amazing experience when I can't physically always be there for me. Sometimes I have to tell myself I can't do it all, and I have to trust others with the business when I am not there.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Stay consistent.
- Journal- write down your goals and accomplishments every morning.
- Get a mentor or someone you can go to for advice/questions! Mistakes are going to happen; having someone to go to for advice who has been through what you're going through, though, will save you time and money.
