What's your business, and who are your customers?

LEVELLESS is a division of GAMMS Unlimited, LLC. My business is a career and performance coaching/strategist company that empowers Generations X, Y & Z, adults in transition, and executives to choose the career/profession that matches their everyday natural abilities and strengths. We empower them to define what success looks like for them, create a strategy to take action, know their worth, advocate for themselves, and succeed on their terms.

Tell us about yourself

Maxine Pearl Phillips, The Levelless Woman, a Career & Performance Coach/Strategist, Author, and Keynote speaker, epitomizes value clarification and self-development. Her legacy is helping students and professionals recognize their value, worth, and capabilities. As a result, they know their everyday abilities and strengths and create a career and life strategy to reach the profession they want, receive the income they desire, and live the lifestyle they deserve. Unfortunately, thousands have heard Maxine's story of being overlooked in high school and did not receive career counseling because of her 2.4 GPA. As a result, Maxine's goal was to obtain a college degree because she believed in herself, and she now empowers others to believe in themselves. According to academic standards, she was average, but according to Maxine's faith, she was an A-student person. The A is for the abilities she received at birth and still uses today.

The current status of your circumstances should not define you because there is always an opportunity to use your everyday natural abilities and strengths. Maxine looked at her high school experience as the catalyst behind her career and performance company. The patriarch of performance coaching conceptualizes that a fulfilled person must operate with complete tenacity and realize there are no limitations to what they can do. When students or professionals understand the abilities and strengths they were born with, their talents, skills, aspirations, and an individual's go-getter mindset will propel them to levels that others thought they would never reach. Maxine calls it LEVELLESS!

As the author of Transformation Write + Share + Live, and the creative brainpower behind the LEVELLESS Mindset™️, she is a generational trendsetter. Phillips became the first of her family of 12 children to earn formal academic honors in higher learning. She earned a BA from North Carolina Wesleyan (Magna Cum laude). She also attained a Business Coach certification from North Carolina State University. The keynote Speaker and Visionary is a Certified SHL– Performance Occupation Personality Coach, Certified Highlands Ability Battery Consultant, Certified Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Consultant, and Certified DDI Behavior-based Interviewer. She is known for creating roles that did not exist and was promoted to fill the newly created position. In one case, she was promoted three times while employed at a Community College.

Over three decades as an HR professional, she knows what corporations seek when selecting candidates.

In 2010, while pursuing my business coaching certification, Maxine's job was eliminated as part of a companywide downsizing. She viewed the layoff as my opportunity to exalt my talents to a realm outside the corporate world. Unfortunately, She received notice on a Monday that her employment would end, left for a business trip on Tuesday, and while gone, her husband of 35 years died. With a broken heart, she continued pursuing her business coaching certification.

A year later, she launched my first company, GAMMS Unlimited LLC. Then, in 2020, during the pandemic, she saw the need to create a podcast to assist those stuck and unsure of how to seek employment. Hence, she launched the LEVELLESS Mindset™ a mindset shift that has successfully propelled thousands of youths, college students, and professionals (adults, C-suite professionals, and executives) into a path of self-discovery, life purpose and a transformation of high performance with consistent results.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am TRANSFORMING GENERATIONS AND LEAVING LEGACIES! One Generation at a time! One Person at a Time, One Student at a Time!
As a business owner when I am able to empower a person who is unsure, stuck, or lacks confidence in their abilities, comes to me to understand themselves (who they are) from their DNA, and choose the career that is best for them, they have a mindset shift and begin to embrace their everyday natural abilities, create a strategy to use their strengths and then reaches the career they want, receives the income they desire and start living the lifestyle they deserve, there is no better feeling than witnessing the moment of acceptance, joy, and the satisfaction expressed. Knowing that I empowered that person so they can empower others is what my motto is all about “Transforming Generations and Leaving Legacies”.  When I am no longer here on this earth, I leave here knowing I fulfilled my assignment and live the lifestyle I deserved with a purpose.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is trying to do everything yourself before you are in a financial position to outsource.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Define the problem you want to solve and ensure you understand the target market that needs your solution by testing the market.
  2. Create a fully developed business plan with scalable financial projections and know your day-to-day revenue goals.
  3. Hire a seasoned business coach with proven results, so you execute the strategy to prevent unnecessary expenses. Do not try it all by yourself, build relationships.
