Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chrissy Bernal, Founder of Be a Better Brand, located in Tomball, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I believe women should embrace their worth and confidently pursue the success they desire, which is why I guide them through proven Branding, Marketing & Communication frameworks and use strategic PR to help them grow their brands with intention and less stress.
Tell us about yourself
After accidentally ending up in the global spotlight for my unique identical twins, I was forced to create & grow a brand on the fly. I knew we needed to harness the power of the publicity they were getting. Fast forward 15 years, and now by combining my formal education with the real-world knowledge gained from my family's growth toward global brand awareness, I have a deep understanding of how to help brands clearly communicate their stories, increase their influence & reduce the chaos experienced in the journey of being known.
While I work with men and women, I'm particularly passionate about working with women because statistics show that female entrepreneurs make half of what their male counterparts make.
I know from my own experience that particular events in my life caused me to lose sight of my worth, and I have heard the same thing from other women. I have had so many wonderful coaches and mentors over the years I wish I had found them earlier in my career. It would have saved me a lot of headaches and lost income.
I remember always feeling so jumbled and constantly operating from a desperation mindset. Now that I'm clear about who I am, what I'm passionate about, and what difference I want to make, I feel so much more focused. And I want to help other women feel the same way.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I consider my biggest accomplishment to be that I can continually help women feel so excited about the future of their businesses. Seeing others succeed is really what lights me up each day.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
In the beginning, one of the hardest things was the lack of clarity. I felt like my message was all over the place. I didn't have my offers nailed down, and I really didn't have a clear vision of where I wanted to go and how to get there.
The other difficult aspect was my mindset. As I mentioned earlier, certain events in my adult years caused me to lose sight of my worth and really recked my confidence. Once I mastered my mindset, everything fell into place.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The top three tips I have for anyone starting out are:
- Conquer your mindset. You will be the main thing in your own way if you don't.
- Gain clarity on your message, vision, and offers.
- Establish your personal brand.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I began my professional career as a newspaper editor for The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, my university. Since graduating over 20 years ago, I have also become a published author and ghostwriter and have been involved in every aspect of building a brand.
I live with my husband and one of our three children, one of whom has special needs, just outside of Houston, TX, and I have three European Blue Great Danes.
When not working or attending one of my daughter’s gigs, you can find me watching a Hallmark mystery movie, reading a book, going to the gym, or trying something new in the kitchen.
