Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Caroline Robert, founder of Bcuit Mtl, located in Montreal, QC, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Sometimes a flavor lab, sometimes a creative workshop, Bcuit Mtl is a colorful Montreal company that offers fortune cookies folded one by one by hand. Colors, flavors, messages, and presentations: the fortunes are completely customizable to your image. To offer without moderation to loved ones, colleagues, at a corporate event, or simply for yourself.
Tell us about yourself
Born from a need to change pace, create and share, Bcuit Mtl was built in 2017 through trial and error, powerful discussions, and a desire to reconnect. Behind what, for the majority, qualifies as “products” stand several reflections and a natural desire to do things differently.
Building on a designer background in the commercial and entertainment fields, I want to keep creating in a playful way and focus on human-scaled productivity in order to enjoy the process as much as the end result.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
It is simply never having given up.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
There would be several answers to this question, but the common denominator remains financial insecurity. This is the main source of stress, especially when starting a business from scratch and building it without help.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Learn to love the process first.
- Give yourself the right to step back and standstill if necessary.
- Keep your eyes on your goals but don’t be too rigid.
- Stay curious, always.
