Be Your Own Kind of Beauty - Bausse Beauty USA
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty and cosmetics but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ana Carreto, CEO of Bausse Beauty USA, located in San Antonio, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Bausse Beauty is an inclusive Cosmetics Brand for beauty lovers across all ages, ethnicities, and economic statuses because everyone deserves good quality and accessible beauty products. We were created many years ago in Mexico. We welcome everyone, no matter where you are in life; we celebrate you!
After being in different countries all over Latin America, we decided to expand to the U.S. We chose Texas because it is such a beautiful state full of good people, great vibes, and amazing places.
We believe in real beauty and achievable looks for real people like us. We are all about affordability, we have some of the best prices in the market, and it’s not like we use different materials to make our products; we just really care about everyone.
We also take pride in saying we are a brand that is 100% vegan and cruelty-free. We want to be recognized as a Mexican cosmetics brand that is proud of our culture. We believe that giving back is important; that’s why we donate to different causes all over Latin America and the U.S.
Tell us about yourself
I am proudly Latina. I was born in Mexico City and left for the first time at the age of 14, where I spent most of my life in three different countries: Switzerland, England, and the U.S.A. My roots have always played an important role in my life, as well as the empathy I feel for everyone.
I was so thankful to have decided -with my partners in Mexico- to bring to the public in the United States top-notch quality beauty products at better prices. Soon after, I launched the cosmetics Mexican brand – Bausse Beauty, here in the U.S.A., in San Antonio, Texas, to be specific.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
After a year in the U.S., we are in 7 retails who trusted us and shared our vision. One of them is a very recognized chain of Hispanic products with more than 100 stores all over Texas.
We’ve also been to many different events such as local markets, conferences, expositions, and networking receptions. Thanks to my partners in Mexico and Bausse’s teams here and there, this dream is coming true for the whole brand and me.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
It hasn’t been easy since, because of COVID, retails weren’t allowed put makeup testers, so customers couldn’t try on the products – which is very important in the beauty industry. Also, many stores were having a rough time, so they weren’t planning on bringing new products anytime soon. I’ve given my heart and all my energy to accomplish my goal of giving Bausse Beauty the title of the #1 Latino cosmetics brand in the U.S.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Trust your own inner guidance. It might sound like a cliche, but please pay attention to your gut feelings; they know more than our minds.
- Ask questions before falling to conclusions. To others, to your business, to yourself.
- Every time you doubt yourself or need advice. Talk to yourself as if you were a friend of yours talking about her/his problems. Then give yourself the advice or the words you would give to that friend. Yes, out loud!
