Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Pritesh Patel, founder of BaseCamp Digital Media, located in Burlington, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Currently, we have two business verticals: BaseCamp Digital and Mediallianz Digital.
BaseCamp Digital is one of the leading digital marketing training companies. Our mission is to simplify, unblur and uncomplicate digital marketing concepts for the next generation of students interested in this field. In addition, there are special courses designed exclusively for professionals, decision-makers, and business leaders to maximize the digital marketing potential for business success. Since its inception, our team has successfully trained 5000+ students and professionals and 20+ CXOs, and we are aiming to train 10,000+ students and 100+CXOs in the coming years.
Mediallianz Digital is a boutique digital marketing agency offering innovative, creative, and advanced services ranging from Branding to Website Development and Online Marketing to PPC and much more. Although Digital Marketing is the buzzword today, there are a lot of misconceptions and myths regarding the same. Many leaders do not know which platform is best for their business and what will bring them the best ROI. In addition, the lack of transparency in this field has confused business people. With the growing number of digital and social platforms, it has become more complex for students aspiring to become digital marketers.
My mission is to Simplify Digital Marketing. Every aspect of my work is aimed at making digital marketing concepts easy to understand for everyone, especially the young talent out there waiting to make their mark in this world and small businesses ready to achieve online success.
Tell us about yourself
Before becoming an entrepreneur, I worked for several big companies, such as Facebook and Yahoo!. At Facebook India, I headed CPG & Retail verticals and worked with some of the top CPG companies. Post that, I was the MD for India & Middle East at Komli Media, a leading Ad-tech Media company. Under my leadership, the firm became one of the top 5 players in terms of revenue in the Display market. With over 14 years of industry experience, I ideated and executed several campaigns at Yahoo! and planned big-ticket innovations at Unilever, P&G, and Citibank, to name a few.
I saw that many big and small businesses with huge potential have been averse to the idea of using digital marketing. One of the major reasons was that every platform came with its terminology, which confused the marketers. Digital marketing is so different compared to marketing on TV, Print, or Radio. The dynamic nature of digital marketing made it more difficult for brands and marketers to embrace the new-age marketing opportunity. After gaining many years of experience, I realized that I have learned so much and felt like I could give a unique perspective and expertise that can add immense value to potential clients.
At the same time, I was so passionate about this field that I wanted to impart the knowledge that I had gained to young aspirants and others. The right guidance is imperative for young minds to challenge existing pathways and make new solutions. These were some major motivating factors for me to get into this field, and they kept inspiring me. Now that I am an established entrepreneur, daily is indeed a challenge. What motivates me is the dynamic nature of the digital industry. There is always something new to learn and a better way to help clients. This keeps me busy. I keep myself updated with all the latest happenings in every digital platform and how they will impact my client's business. It is like a roller coaster ride that has ups and downs, and that makes it much more exciting.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I consider leading, teaching, and nurturing the amazing group of students with best-in-class digital marketing training has been my biggest accomplishment so far. You can scroll through their feedback on BaseCamp Digital's Google My Business Page. It's just so satisfying to make a difference in their lives and help these young and brilliant minds to achieve their career dreams.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
As a business owner, especially in the digital marketing industry, the hardest and the most critical thing is to keep up with current digital trends and technology. The world out there is moving at a frantic pace and rapidly changing 24x7. Every second there's a new platform that pops up or new technology that gets launched. You need to evolve with time and be on your toes to be one step ahead. Also, you must keep the learning mode always on and, most importantly, simplify the topics so my students and client can understand.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- A singular and uncompromised focus on your short-term and long-term goals is the key, especially when you are starting your business.
- Keep a tab on the latest trends and new technology.
- Have a clear idea regarding your target audience and solve their problems with the best product or service.
- Keep learning new ways to satisfy your audience as their interests will keep changing.
- An eye on the competitor can help too.
