What's your business, and who are your customers?
I put together self-help guides for men who struggle with sexual difficulties, along with coaching and support.
Tell us about yourself
As a male psychotherapist working with all kinds of anxiety, most of my clients tend to be guys, and I realised how deep an impact their sexual difficulties can have. We naturally turned to online products and resources for help, so we started putting out articles and videos about these sensitive issues and received positive feedback. I'm still working on my face-to-face therapy practice, but reaching a wider audience motivates me. Plus, the challenge of delivering evidence-based solutions in an engaging, fun way (hopefully).
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Getting over my massive discomfort of talking on video.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Letting go of perfectionism and control freakery and knowing when to get help from others. Definitely still a work in progress for me.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- By all means, understand your competitors but don't let that exercise put you off.
- Focus on what you can bring to the niche or market that makes you unique, even if the results are minimal at first.
- Battle through the 3 am 'what am I doing?' thoughts and persist!
