What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a privately owned beauty salon group with 3 locations: Downtown Overland Park, Antioch Road, Overland Park, and the Country Club Plaza. Our client base is anywhere between 5 and 95, and our talented, award-winning stylists boast five* ratings on Google and are proud to have been featured on television and be the official stylists to the KCTV5 news team and Tivol Jewelers.
Tell us about yourself
I entered the world of beauty salons with zero knowledge after retiring from the hospitality industry. Thankfully, our original team - still with me after six years - has taught me well, and we have enjoyed growth year after year and are on target to beat our first year's results by 30% in 2022.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
That is SO easy to answer. ALL of my original stylists are still cutting, coloring and styling using their great talents. Without them, I can't imagine the success we're having.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Rising costs of products, rent, power and having to pass those increases on to our valued clients. Inflation isn't good for anyone.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Listen to your team.
- Don't change anything unless it's for the positive for your team or clients or, better still, both.
- Make sure everyone feels genuinely appreciated.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
We have been remarkably successful, despite Covid and some other challenges that have come our way, but it's been a remarkable wave of happiness and achievement - all due to our Team Members.
