Where Dessert Goes to the Heart - Bake My Day

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cami Malone, owner of Bake My Day, located in Westminster, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an out-of-home bakery specializing in scratch-made cakes, cookies, and other pastries. I strive to create beautiful desserts that focus on balanced flavors, real ingredients, and individualized designs for my customers. Every client has a vision for what they want, and it is my job to listen to that vision and take it to the next level!

Tell us about yourself

I have been baking and decorating for about eight years now, both in commercial bakery settings as well as my own business. I went full-time on my own four years ago and haven't looked back since! I love pushing my own limits of creativity every day and encouraging myself to think out of the box. I am always looking for new techniques, flavors, designs, and products to expand my skillset and what I offer.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment thus far as a business owner has been seeing my sales increase every year! I am constantly trying to find new ways to market and network in order to continue to grow my business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is finding a balance between my business and my personal life. Growing a business is very time-consuming and takes your full attention 24/7. It can be hard to step away and enjoy time with friends and family, but it is necessary to find a balance that works, or you will burn yourself out!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You only get back what you put in. If you want to grow your business, you have to WORK.
  2. Know your worth! Not everyone will see it, but as long as you stay true to yourself and what you know you deserve, you will come out as the winner at the end of the day!
  3. Remember your WHY. I think so many business owners who experience burnout have fallen into the grind and have completely lost sight of why they started that business in the first place. Whatever started your passion should always be the main driving force of your business.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Something I think we don't talk about enough is how important to support small businesses! You may think that your order, your review, or your recommendation won't mean anything to somebody's big picture, but you are WRONG! No act of support is too small, and I appreciate each and every person who has ever supported me in any way!
