Food, Health, Wellness - Bagels and Brussels
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Naihomy Jerez, Founder of Bagels and Brussels LLC., located in Bronx, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach with a focus on hormone health, and I offer one on one coaching. I am passionate about helping women of color take control of their nutrition, improve their health, and lose weight WITHOUT dieting while living their best life. My clients are women who have tried many different ways to try and get their health back on track, lose weight, build consistency in a lifestyle rooted in wellness, and have not found their way or feel overwhelmed by the process.
Tell us about yourself
I am a Dominican mom of two boys and a wife. Before I transitioned to health coaching, I worked in digital advertising for twelve years. I began my own wellness journey in 2016 while still in my corporate job and after having my second son. In 2018 after losing 50 pounds without restrictions and keeping it off ever since, I knew I had to share my journey and help other women. I wanted to teach women in my community that getting healthy and losing weight could be simple and sustainable, and not a struggle and going through extreme measures like I was used to seeing.
What keeps me motivated each day to do what I do is that I know that my work is literally a matter of life or death. Of a poor quality of life to a fulfilled quality of life. It is amazing to see how people can turn their health around with the right information and support. Getting to help others through this journey is truly an honor.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is seeing what my clients are able to accomplish through our work together. Yes, I can talk about how I have grown year after year or how I have challenged my program around. But all of that falls short in comparison to how these women change their life. And it is not just their life, but the ones of their families as well. Sooner or later, the information they learn begins to spread, and it becomes a multi-generations journey. The impact of creating generational HEALTH is my biggest accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is relearning how to live my life as an entrepreneur and letting go as I used to operate as an employee at a company. All of my traumas and limiting beliefs come flying in to challenge everything I do. Navigating my mind and taking action on things that make me feel super comfortable in order to grow as a business owner has been challenging.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Go for it! Don't let the fear stop you. Either you are going to be successful, or if it doesn't work out, you will learn so many valuable lessons.
- Get support! Some days are hard and scary. It is so worth it to have someone there to support you during those times. Plus help you see how far you have come.
- Do not sacrifice your health over your business. Yes, there will be some off days, but don't make it a habit. If you are consistently not well, how do you expect to run and grow a business for the long term?
