Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jason Shrum, co-owner of Bad Jimmy’s Brewing Company, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We decided to turn a hobby into a business, and Bad Jimmy's Brewing was born on December 27, 2013. Our love for creating a quality craft beer unlike any other has not wavered since day one. We are Dreamer Owned and Love Operated.

Our mission is to ensure that Bad Jimmy's Brewing Co. consistently offers the most innovative creations when it comes to craft beer. We love our beer, and we love our patrons. We want to share our passion with you. We know that the quality of our product is. We always will be, a direct reflection of the high standards we are committed to and what we will be remembered by.

Our mission is to reinvent intensity as it exists in the craft beer world. We will do this with creative combinations of the highest quality ingredients, for which we see no substitute.

Tell us about yourself

An absolute love of craft beer and the community that it creates. I have always loved beer, but I never realized that when we created a brewery, that we were also going to make a network of friendships that have remained so strong.

It’s the people that keep me coming into work with a giant smile on my face. Without the support of our patrons, friends, and family, we’d have nothing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Staying afloat during a pandemic. When starting a business, we researched business plans, overhead costs, payrolls, etc., but nowhere in the playbook was a chapter entitled “What To Do In A Global Pandemic.” Our ability to pivot and navigate through the toughest of times is our greatest accomplishment

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Do lots of research. Visit like-minded business models in your area, and don’t be afraid to lean on your neighbor. Here in Seattle, the brewing community thinks of themselves as just that, a community… not competition. It’s okay to ask questions that you don’t know the answer to
