What's your business, and who are your customers?

Baby Settler is a team of highly qualified RNs with 5+ years of experience in Labor Delivery/NICU/Mom and Baby + Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs). They each have vast experience in not only lactation and sleep but are also qualified to assess a multitude of issues that can impact Mom and Baby. We offer support via in-office, in-home, and virtual/telehealth consultations, as well as online courses and education.

Our patients are families (Mom and Baby) who need support reaching their feeding, sleep, and routine goals starting from the prenatal stage and through their postpartum journey.

Tell us about yourself

My story starts about a decade ago when I found out I was expecting my first child. My husband and I were elated, and my type A personality decided I had to learn everything before our baby arrived. I read a lot of books and did a lot of Googling. WebMD is great until it’s not. As a result, I ended up overwhelmed and with unrealistic expectations for my newborn and the newborn days. It doesn’t have to be that way. And that’s why Baby Settler was born!

As a mom, Registered Nurse, and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, I’ve devoted my career to helping mothers and babies. It’s my mission to help families establish a routine, navigate feeding confidently, and get sleep by empowering parents with evidence-based knowledge and support.

I provide support with my book (Baby Settler: It’s Not Just about Sleep), through our online courses, and with prenatal and postpartum consults. Supporting parents during such a vulnerable time in their life is my passion. I’ve spent over 10,000 hours helping mothers and babies with breastfeeding, pumping, bottle feeding, and helping parents navigate feedings with sleep! Parents deserve to THRIVE, not just survive the baby days!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is building, supporting, and mentoring a team of healthcare providers that truly care for mothers and their babies.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Balance. Being a business owner is not easy! In order to successfully grow my business, I have to wear so many hats. In addition to being a mom of four, a Registered Nurse, and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, I am a Social Media Influencer (with an active 50,000 followers), a speaker, a writer, and a consultant (with interviews included in multiple articles for todayshow.com and Yahoo Life).

I had to quickly become a veteran of marketing, outreach, networking, creating and managing digital content to build relationships, and crafting creative solutions to business problems to help my business grow... all while trying to maintain a work/life balance that works for my family.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Lead with your heart and pursue something that you are truly passionate about. I believe this makes the harder days a little easier and the best days even better because you are invested wholeheartedly in whatever your goals may be for your business.
Hire and invest in the right people. Taking your time to hire the right person for a job (versus hiring quickly) will cut costs. Even more, building a team that is devoted to your mission and helping your business prosper and grow is critical.
Think big but also create realistic expectations by doing as much research as possible early on. Ask questions. Seek mentorship. Don’t be afraid to try something and pivot if it doesn’t work out. Growing is about continuous improvement.
