Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with James Dewberry, Owner of Azimuth360, located in Phoenix, AZ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is in Alternative Health. I practice Medical Qigong, the oldest branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and also provide Health and Wellness Coaching, which is rooted in a strong foundation of Mental Fitness. My clients are individuals who need assistance in resolving Health/Medical issues and those individuals seeking to develop their Mental Fitness by applying it to their overall Health and Wellness. The two areas of service often overlap but are also stand-alone practices.
Tell us about yourself
From an early age, I knew that, as human beings, we were capable of so much more than what is taught. This has led to a nomadic life of exploration from world travel, spirituality, healing, and philosophy to the study of different cultures, people, and the arts. Any outdoor activity, martial arts, Qigong, meditation, music, writing, and working out/exercise are enjoyed and play a big part in my own Health and Wellness journey. I am constantly seeking my greatest potential and growth.
My fascination with our potential as human beings and our body's ability to adapt and heal was always there. After years of watching friends and family suffer from unresolved medical conditions, I began to research and study alternative practices. This eventually led me to Medical Qigong, a complete health system. Eventually, my partner introduced me to Positive Intelligence. With my experience in the military, fitness industry, martial arts, and Medical Qigong, Health and Wellness coaching was a natural fit.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Seeing the joy, exuberance, and child-like enthusiasm for life return in my clients. Medical Qigong, as it is practiced in Traditional Chinese Medicine, is not well known in the states. Usually, the individuals that find me have tried a variety of modalities with limited to no success. It's just awesome to watch the change in people. Nothing feels better than assisting someone in their healing journey and seeing them find success.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
A steady flow of clients. I am always working on getting information about Medical Qigong and Mental Fitness out there. When you work with people in Alternative Health or Coaching, there is usually an end date to that relationship. Ideally, they get well and move on. That is the goal we always strive for. The second would be social media. That is really tough for me. Thankfully my partner is all about it.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Love and Passion - Love what you do. Have a passion for your business and the service provided. Success comes much easier with these two qualities.
- Patience and Discipline - Be patient with yourself and the business. It takes time and a lot of effort. Success rarely happens overnight. Discipline is key. Without it, plans fall through, don't get put into action, and momentum is hard to maintain.
- Commitment - Commit to your business. There are no shortcuts. Show up every day.
Lastly, and maybe most importantly, do what you like. Forget what others think or want you to do. Follow your dream and make it happen. This life is yours to create. You are the designer and the builder. Build the business and life you want. Have faith and trust in yourself. You are good enough. Never let anyone take that from you.
