Entrepreneur & Front-End Developer - Azabraao

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in freelancing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Abraão Azevedo, Front-end Developer of Azabraao, located in Itapevi, São Paulo, Brazil.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a serial entrepreneur and front-end freelancer who loves building products for several different industries. Love the idea of exploring new markets. I target mostly silicon valley startups for my freelance services, and my businesses have targets in between religious people, business owners, and students.

Tell us about yourself

My entrepreneurial journey started in 2015 when I was a classical piano student and had an app idea for helping other pianists. I searched for people to build the app, and no one was interested. So I decided to learn to code and be an entrepreneur to take ownership of my future. So then I found my perfect spot in the world. I would be an entrepreneur. Since then, I've created several startups. Failed in most of them, had one becoming viral, and even sold one! It's been quite a fun journey. As a freelancer, I've also managed to work with giant brands like Whirlpool, Lenovo, Rivian, and Google. My motivation as a freelancer is to explore new markets, get to know very talented people inside the companies I join, exchange knowledge and bring all the learning to my solo initiatives, where my impulse is simply to serve people, making life easier. I don't see entrepreneurship as a glamorous life at all. It's a life of giving!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I was to set up an app for going viral. This app is called "Bible Journey." I loved building every piece of it, and it's awesome to see that people just love it as well! The number of users keeps growing more and more, and word of the mount makes it work. I believe that receiving weekly very positive feedback from clients who download my app is, so far, my biggest accomplishment. I never spent a single cent on ads. It's very frequent that people from the Christian niche share my app in videos or social posts like "tip of a real nice app!", This just feels great!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

To give up on stuff that all the people around you will have, but you may not because you are set up on a target and might have to live frugally until you finally achieve the success you want.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. People will keep saying that you should give up and accept some easier path. Don't listen to them! Keep on insisting on your dreams. You will probably fail several times until that one day you will start to have real income from it, and Aaah, the feeling will be just awesome!
  2. To make the best decisions, you need to get smarter, so find the way you prefer to consume knowledge and keep learning.
  3. Make a plan. Don't fall into the Just Do It. Sometimes It can actually work, but most of the time, it will be just a waste of your precious time. For every new idea, take a step back, breathe and analyze the market you are joining. Plan and act.
