What's your business, and who are your customers?
Ayurvedic Home of Wellness specializes in a complementary approach to Western medicine, focusing on preventative care, offering guidance with Ayurvedic therapies and energetic healing for ailments. What is Ayurveda? Ayur means life, and Veda means knowledge, it is an ancient Indian science on holistic treatment of the body & mind with natural elements, unlocking the internal energies within and creating a path to self-heal. The foundation of my practice, Ayurvedic Home of Wellness, is THE KNOWLEDGE OF LIFE. Working with the 5 elements (known in Ayurveda as the 3 doshas - Vata, Pitta & Kapha), I identify the "doshic" imbalances in each client and establish a personalized balancing treatment plan. The goal of Ayurveda is to surface the root cause of disease and help clients return to their original balance that supports the body in remaining healthy and opens the channels to healing.

Tell us about yourself
I was born in Trinidad and nurtured in a home where my grandmother used Ayurvedic practices in my upbringing. At an early age, I moved to New York and pursued my education in Finance with both a Bachelor's & Master's degree from St. John's University. Landing a career in Finance, holding leadership roles on Wall Street and one of the largest education organizations in the U.S. had its rewards but also took a toll on my own health. The demands and stresses absorbed from the working environment, diet and lifestyle had a physical and emotional impact on my wellness. Ending up in an OR to remove my fibroids was the biggest realization that I needed help, especially when my physician said my fibroids could grow back. I searched for my "root cause" and sought guidance in preventative and corrective healing, both for myself and my family's well-being. During my research, it became clear that I needed to embrace my duty (dharma) as an Ayurvedic Practitioner and dip into my authentic heritage of ancient knowledge encompassed in Ayurvedic teachings, so I decided to study at the California College of Ayurveda and earn my certification as an Ayurvedic Practitioner.
I have always had an inner calling to heal, and through Ayurveda, I have the honor of teaching and helping others. Experiencing tremendous loss, both at work and in my personal life, with people becoming ill due to being overworked, depressed, and struggling with unhealthy environments and diets, I felt the urgency to offer something wholesome and genuine to people. The lack of knowledge and services for individual health in the workplace should be a huge concern. There is a need for Ayurveda in the workplace, and people are seeking an alternative way. I want to bring authentic teaching of Ayurveda to the community. My goal is to create awareness and educate the public on what their unique balance looks, sounds, feels, smells, and tastes like.
Ayurveda is the linkage to my ancestors, and authenticity is my motivation and guiding force.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Living my truth! I have embraced the ability to flow, continue learning, and develop services to support my clients. The feedback I receive from clients who can now manage their health and live a balanced life is rewarding in itself. Taking myself out of my comfort zone and into an entrepreneurship environment has taught me how to merge my experiences in education and health. Creating relatable wellness programs has also been a huge accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Following your passion can be discomforting and scary, but once you release the grip from your comfort zone and make the plunge, everything becomes clearer, and the doubt fades away. Building a business can be time-consuming and can initially be overwhelming. I have to remind myself to find my own balance during this journey and pace myself. Forming my own routine, creating healthy boundaries, and self-care is important as a business owner.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Establish a plan with a clear vision.
- Be open and learn from mistakes.
- Communicate with people that are like-minded.
