What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a full-service Northern Italian Restaurant. Our customers are anyone who enjoys quality House Made Pasta and Italian food and wine.
Tell us about yourself
I am from Sarajevo, Bosnia, and grew up in the restaurant industry. When I was living in NYC, I attended the French Culinary Institute, so I have a background in French cooking. Our first restaurant in Omaha was a French Belgian Restaurant that we recently closed. I was very passionate about Italian cuisine and wanted to do something different. We opened Avoli in 2013. I am very passionate about food. Especially making simple food extraordinary. I love to make people happy with food and expand their minds to what great food can taste like.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think it would be, creating two successful restaurants that were completely different cuisines and changing the restaurant scene in Omaha.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Well, a restaurant has a lot of moving parts, and you never know what each day will bring. So probably the daily problem-solving.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be passionate.
- Have skin in the game; if you aren’t willing to invest your own money, you probably won’t be successful.
- Work very hard.
