The New Face Of Permanent Makeup - Avarté

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty and cosmetics but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Vjera Zec, owner of Avarté, located in West Palm Beach, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a cosmetic tattoo educator, and my clients are novice/advanced permanent makeup artists, body tattoo artists, as well as all beauty professionals looking to enter the PMU industry. I aim to provide the highest standard in permanent makeup training and education, empowering adults of all ages and genders to develop skills that will help them start a rewarding and profitable career.

Tell us about yourself

I was a tattoo artist years ago. I left the tattoo industry for a while and decided to come back and work in the permanent makeup field after having my brows tattooed seven years ago by a well-known industry master. I saw and experienced firsthand how the industry had evolved since I'd left, which led me to make the decision to provide PMU services. Due to the big surge in popularity, there has been an influx of uneducated and somewhat unethical trainers/training, which led me to make my next move. After 5 yrs of providing services and seeing there was a need for in-depth robust training programs, I decided it was time to share my knowledge and expertise and become an instructor. I believe the services I provide need to be researched, studied, and practiced thoroughly before working on the skin. My training courses are both online and live classes for all levels of expertise.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Over the years, the services I provide have allowed me to help individuals suffering from alopecia, breast cancer, burn victims, and more, restore confidence and self-esteem lost due to these ailments. This is a very emotionally rewarding career.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Managing my time so that I can balance work, life, and all the many projects that I envision. Sometimes it is hard to shut down and enjoy life. Business is always in our minds!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, get clarity about what you want in life and why you want it. Decide how you want to live your life. If you are not a 9-5 office type of person, don't force yourself into a box that you don't fit in. Research your field, become an expert, and love every aspect of it. Network, network, network! Can't say it enough. Marketing is great and necessary, but nothing beats the power of real human connections.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I feel many people do not give themselves enough credit. They are always in a rush to get to the end goal and are constantly comparing themselves to everyone else. Many often feel like they haven't achieved enough or never will but what they fail to realize is that we are all unique and work at our own individual pace. We each have our own journey and should live it at our own pace.
