Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alexandrea Anber, owner of Auntie Aldoo's Kitchen, located in Cottam, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our business is making sure everyone enjoys a moment and a delicious pastry because they deserve it.

Tell us about yourself

I have always wanted to be a chef; I love food. I went to school to be a chef. I travel often and explore food around the world. I grew up in a loving environment where food always brought our family together; it is love, connection, culture, and I wanted to create a space and experience that represents that beautiful feeling.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was being able to accept personal growth as a female entrepreneur continually and overcome every challenge I've faced, and be able to give back to other small business owners who are growing. I feel overwhelmingly grateful that I have had the opportunity to help others in their dreams as I was helped when I first started out.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things I have faced as a business owner has been managing business growth, while maintaining composure and staying organized enough to take anything that comes my way.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Growth is uncomfortable, but you need to jump in to move forward.
  2. Remember, it is your business, and you are allowed to set boundaries.
  3. Rest is just as important as hustling. Do not forget about yourself!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It's a beautiful thing doing what you love every day. It is a beautiful thing bringing happiness to people with something as simple as a pastry.
