Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Corey Johnson, Founder of atl kula™, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

atl kula is a wellness studio located in Atlantic Station in Atlanta, Georgia. Inspired by nature's ability to withstand and transform, my wife and I created this space to promote a natural lifestyle through movement, consuming natural products, and keeping the spirit of community at the forefront. We're in the business of helping any and everyone who's on a journey to improve their overall health and well-being.

Tell us about yourself

As a kid growing up in Atlanta, I've always had the goal of one day owning my own business. I was inspired by the many entrepreneurs that helped to shape the community I grew up in, from the local barbershop to the local restaurant owner.

As I went off to college and became a civil engineer, I became that much more interested in learning what helps a community thrive. From there, I became passionate about designing spaces that uplift people. Joining the corporate world, I noticed within myself and others the need for practices that help counteract some of those stressors that tend to pop up when work gets hectic and deadlines are always pressing. I attended my first yoga session and was hooked from there. I knew that space needed to be created right in the heart of the city that would bring people together and expose them to these game-changing practices.

It's the look on people's faces when they come through our doors and let out that one big exhale from the pressures of the day and leave with the weight off their shoulders that motivates me each day to continue the work that I do every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is opening right before the pandemic in March of 2020 and not only surviving but continuing to grow and expand our reach as a brand.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the toughest things that come with being a business owner is navigating the ever-changing macro-economic factors that continue to influence the way we as business owners have to think about the world around us.

It's through the careful analysis of the market that, as a business owner, I've been in tune with what's around the corner. I work every day to position the business in the best way possible to succeed.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The top 3 tips that I'd give anyone looking to start, run, and grow a business today is to first pray and ask God what it is He wants you to do with the opportunity you have.

In running a business, you'll come across a million "fires," and each thing you face is simply a problem to solve – nothing more and nothing less. Your ability to solve problems is what helps a business run smoothly and be successful. Educate yourself constantly to learn better ways to do business and create value for the future.

Finally, a business at its foundation should be about helping people, and with that focus, there's an endless sea of opportunities to grow.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Yes, in all that you do, keep God first in your life, and you will arrive at places you never thought you'd be, as his plans are even greater than what you could ever imagine.
