What's your business, and who are your customers?
AFS is a bookkeeping and CFO firm. Our clients are seasoned business owners who are ready to strategically use their financials to help grow and scale their businesses. We work with online and in-field service-based businesses across the US.
Tell us about yourself
AFS was born out of the pandemic. I have a degree in early childhood education and accounting. In 2020 I was working in a local public school part-time. When school went virtual, I knew I needed to find a way to be home with my boys.
I decided to dust off the accounting degree, create a business model, and start connecting with some local businesses before marketing online. I actually started AFS doing tax returns! I love being able to work from how and now am able to give that opportunity to other moms as I build a team.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is building a successful business while staying true to my beliefs and morals.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things for me as a business owner is learning to say no. Not every opportunity is a good one, and not every potential client is a great fit.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- I have to start with a money tip. Unless you are a product business, don't go into debt to start your business. Test the waters with a small personal investment, or just skip the expensive things. Get a paying client and reinvest that money.
- Search for a supportive community. One of my best communities is a group of other bookkeepers.
- Avoid comparing your journey to anyone else's.
