Become the CEO You Dreamed of - Aspire Executive Coaching

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Emma Collyer, Founder of Aspire Executive Coaching, located in Lakefield, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Executive and Leadership Coaching. I focus on helping aspiring leaders, those new to leadership, and those perhaps who are looking to move into a more significant leadership role. I have a particular interest in helping Environmental Leaders as my background is from that sector.

Tell us about yourself

We arrived in Canada in 2018, and I wanted to use this change in life and location to focus on something new. I had previous coaching experience, so I blended my passion and desire to run my own business with my love of coaching. My motivation is seeing the benefit to my clients from the coaching that I do, which pushes me to be better, work on myself and refine my business to make things smoother.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is taking the leap into business ownership. It's something I have wanted to do for a long time, so being brave and taking that leap was the hardest part.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There are always plenty of tasks to do as a business owner, so one of the hardest things can be knowing where to prioritize effort! Also, working on your own, without a team to supply ideas, expertise, and knowledge, can be challenging - you have to rely on yourself for everything!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you are going to rely on social media to help supply your clients, start building your audience in advance of making the transition into being a business owner. This way, you are helping yourself without a huge drop in income.
  2. Ensure you spend some time developing a business plan and researching your competition. This will provide insights and direction when you are struggling to know what to do.
  3. Seek out mentors and coaches to help you - people that can help and provide the space for you to think about yourself and your business are hugely valuable as things progress.
