What's your business, and who are your customers?

Asili Wellness is a health and wellness space where we celebrate Women of Color and naturally nurture mind, body, and spirit. Asili Wellness offers holistic therapeutic services such as yoga, talk therapy, health and wellness coaching, and retreats. We also provide sustainable home and body care products to nurture multicultural women's health and wellness. Through our holistic therapeutic services and sustainable products, we create experiences where millennial multicultural women are supported in thought, feeling, and being.

Tell us about yourself

Asili Wellness serves millennial Women of Color seeking a safe space where they can safely work through and recover from the negative impacts of anxiety, depression, and trauma. Some need help juggling their career, romantic relationship, and family demands. Others daily feel empty, stressed, highly emotional, or burned out. Overall, they are having difficulty managing their health and happiness.

I have been there, and that is why I created Asili Wellness. I understand our plight as Women of Color in this country and our need to be supported in thought, feeling, and being. We want to be healthy and well. We want to care for ourselves and our loved ones. We want to shift from surviving to thriving! At Asili Wellness, we can celebrate who we are and experience holistic therapeutic services that enhance, transform, and nourish our well-being. Asili Wellness is a health and wellness space created for us to nurture our mental, physical, and spiritual health naturally.

I am a clinical psychologist + yoga therapist who provides comprehensive and integrative approaches so that Women of Color can flourish in mind, body, and spirit. I offer yoga, therapy (Yoga + Talk, individual and couples), coaching, retreats, and sustainable products to rejuvenate health and wellness. Through Asili Wellness, I work with women to make changes to cultivate peace in their lives and prosper! I walk alongside Women of Color in creating their happiness and enhancing their ability to promote health, prevent disease, encourage self-care, and foster healing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am proud that Asili Wellness is a safe space where we see, hear, feel, and understand multicultural women. Women of Color are celebrated and valued! We create happiness and enhance our ability to promote health, prevent disease, encourage self-care, and foster healing. We thrive! Within this work, I walk alongside trauma survivors, Soldiers, single moms, couples on the brink of divorce, and self-identified people pleasers. By incorporating yoga, mindfulness, meditation, and therapy, I have witnessed people challenge their unhelpful thoughts, speak kindly to themselves, take purposeful breaths, celebrate their physical strength, establish boundaries in their relationships, and improve their sleep. At Asili Wellness, we shift the narrative that yoga and meditation are for others. Wellness is for everyone and does not discriminate.

One of my most significant accomplishments was hosting my first sold-out treat this past fall. In October 2022, I offered the Nourish + Nurture Retreat for Women of Color. It was an all-inclusive health + wellness retreat for multicultural women new to living holistically and those with consistent wellness practices and a holistic lifestyle. Our retreat offered an oasis where we celebrated our sisterhood, engaged in self-care, and deepened our mindfulness practice. Nourish + Nurture Retreat for Women of Color provided a healing space that integrated mind, body, and spirit. The women experienced yoga, breathwork, meditation, nourishing foods, enrichment workshops, and forest baths. Women reported walking away with an abundance of gratitude and love.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Rejection. So many thoughts and emotions arise when we hear, see, or feel that word, right? However, rejection is one thing that comes with being a business owner. Whether it's a face-to-face customer saying they're "not interested," a bank denying you a business loan, or a potential client going to your online store and not completing the sale, rejection is rearing its ugly head. The hard part is what role we allow rejection to play in our business. It can drive us or deter us.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Keep with your health and wellness routine. If you don't have one, then establish one. Whether creating space for stillness, setting aside time for spending with loved ones, or moving your body, it's crucial to have practices that support you well. Your health and wellness are the top priority; if you're not healthy, your business won't be either.
  2. Look at "failures" as "growth opportunities." What can you learn from this situation? How can each experience propel you personally and professionally? How we interpret each encounter can serve us well in business or hinder us. We have a choice in this.
  3. Don't make significant business decisions based on emotions. Emotions are fleeting and fickle. Pause and breathe. Observe your thoughts and feelings. Then proceed.
