I hold a bachelor's degree in Science & MBA in Marketing and Finance.
I always wanted to be a business owner however was not sure what and how to start during my early days. After spending a decade in the corporate working environment and understanding the small nuances of business decided to take up the challenge of being a business owner by starting an IT Services Firm. Over the next decade in the business, I learned a lot by committing mistakes, correcting them, and implementing them again.
I had very little help during the ups and downs of business life; however, I did survive and excelled on my own by asking for help, self-learning, planning to detail, and executing to the best of my ability. Post successful exit from earlier business by way of M&A, I decided to help the SME and Startup community so that I can play a vital role in their success; working with different teams/ founders gives me a chance to engage with someone younger, who may see things very differently. In a changing world, it is essential to understand how those who have come after you think and also how they view your generation.
Sharing my experiences may help me understand them in a different light
a moment that barely made an impact on me may, in fact, provide crucial insight to another person. Sometimes you need to get out of your own head to actually understand yourself better. Hence how best I can help them every day and, in return, learn something new keeps me motivated.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As a business owner, my biggest accomplishment is to be able to generate employment for talented pool of guys from Tier II/III cities and also provide them with an open working environment of teamwork, help, and availability of required resources with responsibilities to take ownership of things/task to make them highly successful future leaders/managers. I feel very proud of myself when I see my successful Ex-Employees in higher positions with MNCs.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
To accept that you don't know everything; hence you will have to take help when required, work out of your comfort zone, and get to solutions by thinking out of the box. You always need to be ready for unexpected things.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do a SWOT analysis for yourself and your business/idea before taking action.
- Plan things in advance on paper to the detail and validate the things from an expert.
- Be Proactive than Reactive ( use a process-implementation-review-based approach from day one).
