Create & Maintain an Anti-inflammatory Life - Ashly Edmiston

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashly Edmiston, a certified nutrition and wellness coach based in Haubstadt, IN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help individuals manage their stress levels and nutrition in their daily lives to help them reduce the inflammation in their bodies that can cause various illnesses, high blood pressure, and chronic pain.

Tell us about yourself

About five years ago, I was nearly 300 lbs and had scary high blood pressure, chronic pain, anxiety, and other various illnesses. I was told by a doctor that I was in such bad shape I was going to be in a wheelchair in about five years. It was then that I woke up and enrolled back in school to study nutrition. I used that in combination with my Psychology degree to change my habits, which then led to a complete transformation. Five years later, I am walking farther than ever, I am off all medications, and my blood tests show I have almost no inflammation in my body. Now it is my mission to help others, who have no hope like I did, see that there is hope.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It is getting messages telling me how someone implemented my tips from either my Youtube channel, my blog, or my courses, and now has lower blood pressure, and they got their blood results back and are no longer pre-diabetic, their thyroid levels are great, or that they have less anxiety. Nothing beats getting those emails.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Learning how to do all the technical things of whatever content you are trying to create. It can often lead to burnout because you have to learn so many different systems that you don't really want to learn just to write or record a video that can reach your audience.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Pick one social media platform and stick with it. Don't try to be on every platform at once because you will get in over your head. Once you grow one, then add another in.
  2. Hire a lawyer to protect your creations and your website. Don't go with the free templates you see online because they won't cover everything. You need your policies catered to your type of business and what you offer as an individual.
  3. Just do it. Most people starting a business do it with zero support, so don't be surprised if no one seems to support you. They can't see your creative vision, and that's okay. That's why you are the one with the idea, not them. Keep going. The support will come later. You know you can do this.
