Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashley Clemens, Founder of Ashley Khristine Fitness, located in Nashville, TN, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm a trainer and nutritionist who helps women use macro tracking and strength training to get lean and toned. I love teaching women how to lift weights and fuel themselves properly so they can build strength and self-confidence. I coach women virtually through my Fit Life membership program, where custom nutrition goals, a progressive workout program, education, and accountability come together to help you get results.
Tell us about yourself
My first profession was teaching and instructional coaching, which definitely carries into what I do now. I love teaching, but fitness was always my other passion. I've now found a way to combine both as I teach women how to eat and exercise to build a body and lifestyle they love. I feel continually motivated by seeing the positive change that happens for my clients mentally, physically, and emotionally as they develop healthier habits and get stronger. It's extremely rewarding to celebrate someone's first push-up, achieving their fat loss goal, or just gaining confidence in how to fuel themselves properly for lifelong health and wellness.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is being able to help women from all over the country improve their health, get fit, and build confidence in themselves. Nothing makes me happier than celebrating my clients' strength gains and independence in managing their nutrition and fitness once equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to be successful in life.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner, for me, is stepping away and creating that space for myself to just "be." There is always something you can be doing, but endlessly trying to be productive is actually counterproductive, and I've learned it's important to create space from your business and take breaks so that you can bring your best self to your clients.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Invest in yourself. Being the best at what you do requires you to be a lifelong learner and committed to continually growing and evolving as a person.
- Take care of yourself. You cannot pour from an empty cup - we all know it, but when you first start a business, your own health can be pushed to the back burner. If you keep a solid routine, sleep well, and fuel yourself, your business and the people you work with will benefit from your optimal self.
- Remember that you can change your mind. Don't put so much pressure on every single decision. Try one thing and see how it goes - if it's perfect on the first try, you probably waited too long to execute. Ask people for feedback, revise and improve. If you don't like something or it's not working, change it. If it's your business, you can change things until they feel right to you.
