Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in artwork but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Paula Hightower, Founder of Artwork by Paula, located in Canvey Island, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My online shop specialises in my own artwork transformed into fine art prints, greeting cards, postcards, and colouring books inspired by music, the arts, and pop culture. I also take portrait commissions.

Tell us about yourself

I love to draw and paint, and I specialise in creating portraits of people and animals. I have been creating art since childhood and always felt it was something I was meant to do. My inspiration comes from all things music, the arts, and pop culture.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building up such a large collection of items using my artwork. Also, the satisfaction when I see someone's joy in receiving a commissioned portrait I have made for them.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

It's very hard to get your work noticed in such an oversaturated market.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Keep going, and don't give up. Things probably will start very slowly, but don't let that discourage you. Keep doing what you do, and you'll eventually get rewarded. Patience and persistence pay!
