Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in body art but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Wina Poliquin, owner of Art Therapy Corp, located in Osoyoos, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Well, I do a lot of entrepreneurship in our little town! Art Therapy is my main occupation that was created in 2006. The main focus is dedicated to body art, tattoos, and piercings. The space also supports healing arts by allowing practitioners a space for private or public group meditation and circles in the evening.

The Curator rooms are attached to our building. You can find local/national artists, jewelry, ethical home decor, and vintage clothing. We are dedicated to supporting our community's arts and handling a gallery, and a meet-up place for an NFP called Wide Arts National Association that I am also the president. Anyone that comes to visit us here leaves with an impression!!

Tell us about yourself

The main motivation for all my endeavors has always been a passion and a fierce dedication to holding into my dreams while also allowing the flow of events to guide me. I have been very fortunate to receive so much support along the way from my fellow comrades. There was a time when I had to do a few other jobs to keep the studio going. I love what I do !! Practicing the sacred art of Body piercing is such an honor to me and any day spent doing this work is a joyful day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Holding on and going through the COVID crisis and coming out stronger than ever.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It's the constants that become part of your entire world. It s a huge learning trajectory that helps you find your own balance. The bills keep coming to every month, accountability, and responsibility.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

If you think you can do anything in the world, what would it be? Then nourish it, sustain it, and the rest will fall into places. Loving what you do is always a key for ease, and it makes the harder parts less of a burden.
