Silver, Gold, & Precious Gems of All Colours - Argent Tonic

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Aaron Maya, founder of Argent Tonic, located in Montreal, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an artisanal jewelry store, and we take care of all the manufacturing processes. From the creation to the manufacturing, the jewels are handmade with care. All our pieces are in sterling silver and natural stones, mainly unique pieces. Our clientele is very eclectic, from 23 to 60 years old, men or women, our clientele likes art and original creations.

Tell us about yourself

The most important point is really the passion, the pleasure to be able to transmit it to the customers. We are fortunate to have a loyal clientele who always have very positive feedback! As a craftsman, we also have an educational role towards the customer so that the understanding of the craft can be transmitted.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The greatest success is the professional fulfillment, to have the chance to get up every morning to work with passion and to see the positive feedback from customers regarding the creations. We are celebrating our 20th anniversary this year. We have seen the business evolve over the years and grow alongside its customers.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think that as self-employed people, we all have a similar problem. We live all the time in the uncertainty of the success of our business, the economic crises. We have to find the balance between an impeccable service at affordable prices to satisfy the customer and profitability to be able to continue to evolve.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The most important thing is to believe in yourself and in your product; it is important to like what you propose to have the most authenticity possible. It is also important to differentiate yourself from others to find your own identity. The after-sales service is, in my opinion, the third most important point, a customer satisfied by the experience is a customer we will have the chance to see again.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

We live in an increasingly competitive world; we can easily have everything at our disposal; that's why we must create an exceptional customer experience. It is also important to surround yourself with competent people, to do a market study to be sure of your finances, to have trusted jobs, etc...
