What's your business, and who are your customers?

APEX San Diego is the premiere Parkour training facility in Southern California, offering classes, Open Gym, and competitions. We specialize in movement sports, including Parkour, Breakdancing, Tricking, and more. Anyone can train in these sports. We have athletes as young as three years old all the way to those 75 and over.

Tell us about yourself

I opened APEX San Diego after taking Parkour classes while living in Colorado years ago. When I moved back to San Diego, there was no Parkour facility there, so I decided to share my love of this sport with San Diego. It's a great activity that works the entire body yet never feels like working out... until you're sore the next day. It's a sport that can be done anywhere and can be done by anyone.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am so proud that I got APEX San Diego through the pandemic. Not only did APEX survive, but I brought us out even stronger than we went in. I led my team in adapting to the constant and random changes that the pandemic presented to businesses during that difficult time.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Managing people takes patience, understanding, and adaptability, which challenges every business owner. They are the most important part of a customer-facing business and present some of the most difficult challenges to business owners.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First thing... research!! Investigate the need for the business you want to start.

Second... don't over-extend yourself coming out of the gate. Too much overhead expense. Too many irons in the fire at the same time.

Third... be able and ready to adapt to anything. The rigidity can sink a ship... flex with the waves and the weather.
