Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Stacey Brake, Owner and Creator of Anxiety Detox, located in Beaufort, NC, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm a mental health educator, coach, and consultant. I specialize in helping people reduce anxiety and connect with joy. My main offering is an online program called Anxiety Detox. It's for people who want to take charge of their mental well-being and feel empowered to live life on their terms.
Tell us about yourself
After over 17 years of helping people, I saw a dangerous gap in the market. 63% of people diagnosed with anxiety will never go to therapy. I saw the need for more ways for people to access strategies and tools to reduce anxiety.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I've been able to single-handedly grow my business from the ground up. My biggest accomplishment has been connecting with school districts to bundle my product and offer it as a wellness benefit for the entire school district.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is moving forward without certainty. I have so many great ideas, but I don't know which will really work or not until I move forward, implement, and then evaluate. It can be overwhelming to make decisions without knowing for sure what the outcome will be.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The top three tips I'd give to someone looking to start, run and grow a business today would be:
- Start with what you've got. We'd all like to have a bigger marketing budget or the perfect business plan. But the magic in running a business is that it will never work if you don't get started. Even if your plan isn't perfect, get started, so you can get a bit closer to the goals you have set.
- Create your circle of mentors, friends, and advisors ASAP. Running a business can get lonely. It is invaluable to have someone to bounce around ideas with, someone to commiserate with the hard times, and someone to cheer on the victories that look tiny on the outside but feel HUGE on the inside.
- Don't give up. Running a business can be emotionally taxing and demanding. You may feel tired or overwhelmed at times. If one thing isn't working, adjust your course and keep going. Don't assume that you are a failure and that you'll never figure it out just because one idea didn't work. Accept this as a part of the growth of your business and move on.
