Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adam Pivko, Co-founder & Chief Strategy Officer of Autumn DNA, based in Toronto, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We take the guesswork out of vitamins and supplements with a DNA test + Lifestyle assessment, then curate and deliver monthly a personalized plan of what they ACTUALLY need.
Tell us about yourself
I've been in the e-commerce and performance marketing industry for over 12 years. I was getting pressure from clients, colleagues, and even employers along the lines of "Adam, why don't you just start your own and smash everyone?!?!"
I always told myself I wouldn't do that if it was just about making as much money as possible, and instead, I was better off helping clients and employers achieve their growth goals and dreams.
That was until I found a problem that I faced and realized my solution could help many people.
I'm motivated by spreading the awareness of the science of nutrigenomics, helping people on their path to optimal health, and ultimately, calling bullshit on a broken vitamin and supplement industry by using science and personalization as a white knight.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Building something from nothing that helps the people I care about, and more.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
This question is an easy one for me:
I so quickly realized that there is an infinite number of things at any given time that can be worked on to improve your business. The hardest thing is prioritizing those against all the factors; customers' best interest, revenue, cost, and time.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- AIDA Principle - Attention, Interest, Desire, Action - is a phenomenal proven method for conveying a message and curating a customer experience learning about your product/service/brand. This principle should at minimum be used in the area of a website known as above-the-fold. (google it for more info)
- Following your passion is good and all; however, it's likely a very crowded space. Instead, I'd recommend following your TALENT; you'll be able to strive for higher ROI.
- If what you are building is not UNIQUE/ORIGINAL, don't try to reinvent the wheel in the early days; look at what your competitors/adjacent brands are doing and replicate with your brand spin.
In internet marketing, R&D is not Research and Development; it is Rob and Duplicate.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I'm very passionate about connecting with and helping internet marketing entrepreneurs. My specialties are in the physical goods space, subscription models, and affiliate marketing.
I'm always open to a zoom/phone call to discuss challenges.
