Tell us about yourself

In my early 20s, I was a mom of two young girls, broke, working to create a career, uncertain of where my life would take me, and simply struggling to survive.  I took a risk on a start-up company, and within a few years went from a Customer Success Rep to building a life I would never have dared to dream of. What started out as a side job for me turned into the greatest adventure of my life.

In four years, I went from knowing nothing about business or running a large company to being a CEO and building multi-million dollar companies that had a vision, mission, and heart. Companies that were changing the world.

From deep insecurity to great confidence, from poverty to wealth, from making mistakes and failing to success, I started with nothing and have built a life that – at one point – I never would have believed was possible, and I want other people to do the same!

I was selling clean, organic supplements, and women wanted to know what kind of products I was using outside of supplements. Skincare was one of the biggest questions. I started looking into the industry, and I knew I needed to do something to make a great change there. AnnieMak was born, and the rest is history.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The products I have created and sold. The teams I work with and the culture we have created and the customers I serve, and the lives we are changing.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Making sure to put yourself and your passions and hobbies first. Taking care of and loving yourself first. When you do those things, your life is better, and your business thrives more. These things give you the space to be more creative and successful. Life is short, and building businesses are fun, but building them and not living your life, is missing the point of being a business owner. Your life should be more fulfilling and free over time as a business owner, not harder and worse.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Work hard, move fast, and don't procrastinate on tasks or your gut feelings.
  2. Don't spend time on things that aren't making you money. Make as much money as you can selling amazing products and content, and then build and create all the fluff and fun stuff later.
  3. Look at your competitors for inspiration and to understand the market, but don't try to be them. Go and do it better and build things that are true to yourself and your brand in your own way, without permission or acceptance from others. The people and customers you need will be drawn to you for you! The way it should be!
