What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Certified Advance Resume Writer (CARW), Certified Employment Interview Consultant (CEIC), and Careers Coach with an ICF-approved Certificate in Career Coaching Practice; my number 1 aim is to help clients get the job they want. In 2021, I was recognized as a TORI Award-winning resume writer by Career Directors International. My key clients are those who struggle to sell themselves confidently to get the job they want. I work with people at all stages in their careers, from students and people returning to work after a career break to senior executives and across industries.

Tell us about yourself

I re-trained as a career consultant after relocating to The Netherlands from Scotland with my husband's work. I had to give up a job I enjoyed and then reinvent myself, so I fully understand what many of my clients go through when trying to figure out the right job for them. I enjoy helping people to sell themself on their resumes and in interviews, and I am motivated by my clients' results. It is due to their results that all my work is now through word of mouth.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Not having to pay for advertising as my clients do all my advertising for me.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Learning to say no!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't wait until you are 100% happy with your website before starting, as your website will always be a work in progress.
  2. Know your boundaries and values and stick to them.
  3. Know and use your strengths and hire others to do the things you are not so good at.
