What's your business, and who are your customers?

I offer in-person and online transgender voice training and singing lessons. I work with transgender people wanting to modify their voice to better suit who they are and anyone interested in singing or acting lessons.

Tell us about yourself

I started teaching voice in 2013. What motivates me is helping people be themselves and seeing what my students are capable of achieving as their true selves and/or as singers.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is having students all over the world. As people have had success working with me, a lot of networking has happened.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is that there is so much to know, and it's things that you wouldn't have learned in school. There's a lot of learning to be done as you go.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you have all the tax accounts you need and pay what you're supposed to as soon as you can every time a deadline comes up.
  2. Research the different types of companies that can be formed where you live, and choose the type that's going to be best for you and your needs. Choose wisely.
  3. Pay for the best lawyers, accountants, and marketing you can as soon as you can afford it. These people will save you a lot of headaches down the road and will make sure you know what you're supposed to be doing.
