Empower Midlife+ Women - Anita Goa Wellbeing
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Anita Goa, Founder of Anita Goa Wellbeing, located in London, England, UK.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I teach yoga, fitness, and well-being, and I am on a mission to remind people that age, race, and gender is not a limitation. It’s an advantage. I support midlife+ women to feel empowered to live their purpose every single day.
Tell us about yourself
I hated exercise and sports growing up, but a spark was ignited when I discovered aerobics with the Jane Fonda workout in the 80s. That was the gateway to well-being for me. I have evolved a lot since then, but the red thread through it all and what motivates me every day is the privilege to make a difference. I love the feeling when my teaching empowers students and clients to grow and live their purpose.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am proud of the successful aerobics and yoga classes and personal training business I had in New York and publishing a book on using yoga as the foundation for a fitness program. In 2014 my family and I moved to London, UK, and I had to start from scratch building new clients. I am proud of how highly adaptable I am, going from being an aerobics teacher to a personal trainer to building a YouTube channel to now running an online studio membership.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The landscape of well-being has changed a lot since COVID, and it’s been a bit challenging as a solo-preneur to navigate new technology, constantly changing social media, and marketing.
I also had a setback due to a back injury and peri/menopause challenges but adversity is part of life. It’s all about learning and growing from it. I think of transitions as upgrades, and at 53, rather than giving up, I am stepping it up.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
An entrepreneur needs:
- A lot of patience - things often take longer than you think.
- A lot of passion and a good coat of Teflon because although you love what you do, it will test you.
- To be able to adjust and adapt because what you set out to do might change. Also, invest in a marketing course! Set a plan.
