What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the Owner and Creator of Angie Berrett Movement, coaching anyone struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Using play and "non-traditional" movements releases stored trauma in their bodies, changing their lives. I help people suffering from mental health struggles change their lives through play, breathwork, and a proprietary way of using movement to release stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma.

Additionally, I teach Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga to anyone who wants to have a fun experience, engage in their body in a different way, and push themselves, even if they have some fear.

Tell us about yourself

I am Angie Berrett (she/they). I am a Registered Nurse and Advanced Trauma-Informed Yoga Instructor who understands the human body and how it works.

After going from child abuse survivor to registered nurse to yoga instructor, I have spent much of my life caring for others. In 2017 I hit rock bottom and started on a journey to heal my own pain. Discovering playful ways of using breathwork and movements helped me overcome my suffering in ways traditional movement and therapy could not. My personal struggles inspired me to create a proprietary way of moving that allowed me to heal. As I healed from my own struggles, I wanted to be able to help others heal and have transformational experiences in their lives. So I started Angie Berrett Movement to teach others what had benefited me.

Every day, I am motivated by helping others heal. Guiding people through transformational change and experiences brings me happiness and motivates me to keep going through difficult times.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is starting my business. As a child abuse survivor, I had absolute terror about putting myself out there and creating not only a business but a movement. Starting my business with that terror is something of which I am incredibly proud.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Not having clear boundaries between work life and home life. As a business owner, I spend a lot of hours working, especially on the back-end stuff. I don't punch a clock, so oftentimes, I work late into the evenings. I feel constant pressure and awareness that if I don't get tasks completed, they literally don't get done.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start early growing your social media and email list.
  2. Do it, even if you are not ready. Does not matter what "it" is; we rarely feel ready!
  3. Love what you do because you are going to spend a lot of time and energy on it!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Don't let fear hold you back from reaching for your dreams. Make friends with the discomfort of growth, as owning a business is a lot of growth!
