Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Angelique Montano-Bresolin, founder of Proactive Pelvic Health Centre, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a pelvic health physiotherapist & coach, as well as the founder of Proactive Pelvic Health Centre - a multi-disciplinary pelvic health rehabilitation clinic in Toronto, Canada, and Pelvic Health Hub - a digital pelvic health and sexual wellness boutique. I help individuals who struggle with pelvic health concerns around pain, incontinence, pregnancy & postpartum, and those struggling with sexual dysfunction. I help them reach their unique goals in life and in their intimate relationships.
Tell us about yourself
I discovered the world of pelvic health by accident about nine years into my physiotherapy career. I honestly didn't even know that a licensed physiotherapist like myself could help individuals that struggled with pelvic and sexual health issues.
At that time, I was working as a clinic director and clinician in a physiotherapy clinic where I helped many individuals with neck and back pain. Little did I know then that over 95% of women (vagina owners) who struggled with back pain also had underlying pelvic floor dysfunction (issues with the muscles and soft tissue in the pelvic floor and surrounding area). Yes, this is what current scientific evidence is showing! This is what ignited my journey into the pelvic health and wellness world. Helping women with these very sensitive concerns and coaching them to improve their lives and their relationships is what really motivates me to do what I do. We have lived in a society that has historically swept these issues under the rug and has left many women feeling like their concerns are not valid or important. This is just wrong. I feel so strongly about advocating for continued progress in the area of women's (pelvic) health because a healthy woman means a healthier home life, work life, and society as a whole.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As a business owner, my biggest accomplishment is opening the first multi-disciplinary pelvic health rehabilitation clinic to service the Toronto community and then taking this to the next level by serving this population globally via my digital pelvic health boutique, Pelvic Health Hub.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
You are always ON...need I say more? Even though there isn't a day that goes by when I don't think about something pelvic health-related, I am lucky to say that my work doesn't feel like work. This is truly my life's authentic path, and I am where exactly I should be. So even though the day-to-day grind can be hard, loving what I do makes it feel easy.
