Tell us about yourself

I started Preferred Health Magazine in 2017 as a way to bring the biographies of great doctors at the Patient Preferred Physicians Network to the forefront. But out of my love for journalism and a need to come back to it after 10 years in publishing, my team and I developed it into a respected health and wellness magazine of amazing interviews with celebrities, expert advice, book reviews, trending health topics, exercise, and mental health issues. At PHM, we work hard at "Keeping Health Hip." It is my continued desire to help educate our audience, to help answer the questions they may be wondering about but were afraid to ask, that keeps me motivated every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment to date has been having Preferred Health Magazine recognized by healthcare industry experts and news organizations and the connections and collaborations I have developed within the industry. I am proud of where we are in this space and look forward to the future of the publication.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I would say as a business owner, wife, and mother of two, time management is one of the hardest things to nail down. I have learned to better manage my time throughout the years by scheduling tasks and expectations for the week. Being able to check my list off as I go keeps me calm and focused.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a plan. Outline why your business is important to both you and your consumer. What need are you fulfilling?
  2. Have some money to invest in your business. "I started with a dollar, and a dream" businesses are tough. If you love your business, know that you will need funds for all sorts of things, phones, supplies, marketing, employees, etc.
  3. Never stop learning about your business. Even if you believe you know your business inside- out, there is always something to learn. And continued education, whether from school, podcasts, seminars, webinars, or books, is what will keep you moving forward and ahead of your competition.
