What's your business, and who are your customers?

We produce podcasts of all varieties – entertainment podcasts, divorce podcasts, ADHD podcasts, and high conflict podcasts.

Tell us about yourself

I worked in the film industry for several decades and was podcasting on the side, but when COVID struck, I shifted to podcasting full-time. I love creative conversations. Audio is a joy to edit, and the stories are fun to craft. It's a wild industry that just keeps growing and is fun to be a part of.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've been a part of so many wonderful projects that thrill me to have seen come to fruition, but the development of The Next Reel Film Podcast over the last 12 years has been so much fun. I feel the conversations we have about movies bring a lot to the listeners and allow for fun conversations to be a part of.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The biggest challenge for me is the balance of time. Working from home, it's easy to always be working and always be thinking about work. I find myself far too often sitting at my computer, just responding to a few more emails at 10 o'clock at night. I know it's not healthy, so it's learning the balance.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Social media has become such an intrinsic part of marketing today that it's critical you develop that as you grow your business. Learning to connect to your base in your various online communities is important to do, but it's important to learn how to connect in a genuine way. No one wants you there, just selling your wares. Be a part of the community first. And don't be afraid to reach out to people outside of your area for collaboration. We're truly a global community. Find ways to search for people to help you that deliver the best of what you need.
