Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andrea Aguilar, Owner of Andrea Anali LLC., located in Brownsville, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Marketing and Business Consulting. My target audiences are women and Hispanic small business owners that are seeking help to launch, manage or grow their businesses. I work with women business owners that want to create meaningful brands full of purpose.

Tell us about yourself

I had a long way in the Fashion Retail Business and had a promising future, but as time passed by, I decided working as a corporate woman was not the future I wanted. I realized the workforce was not thought for us women and our needs. That is how I decided to launch my own brand (a women's sneakers brand), and that was my first business. After some years, I put my experience as an MBA, marketing specialist, fashion retailer, and small business owner all together and decided to launch my own marketing and business consulting.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I had designed and built the life of my dreams. I have become a digital nomad, and I consider myself a happy and successful woman, mom, and wife who has created a business that allows me to manage my own schedule to fulfill my needs, live in wellness, be present in my daughter's life, enjoy vacations with my family and inspire them by working from any place of the world.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Trying to manage everything and avoid distractions. It is hard to be your own boss and build the system and discipline you need.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Never start a business just because you need money. Start a business because you have a purpose. Establish your purpose and have your brand live by it.
  2. Do not micro-manage. Just because you are able to do many things, it does not mean you should be doing them. Create a team you can rely on that will allow you to grow and expand your vision for this business.
  3. Do not try to copy anyone else's system or method. You will be living by the expectation to do everything perfectly and by the book (someone else's book). Get inspired, but create your own system. Build with your family and social circle the system that will support you to be able to accomplish your dreams and projects.
