What's your business, and who are your customers?

Anchor Studio Photography. My clients are moms and moms-to-be who value photographs and love experiencing portrait sessions with their loved ones.

Tell us about yourself

Hi, I'm Silvia - the owner and photographer at Anchor Studio. I'm a mom of three little ones that are my world. I started as a wedding photographer in 2012 and made the transition to family and newborn photography shortly after. I'm passionate about finding the beauty in the imperfections of families as they are right now in this moment in time. When I shoot, I look for simple, candid moments that I feel are actually the big moments in life you'll cherish for years to come.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to do what I love every day and seeing the joy it brings to my clients to capture their families. My biggest accomplishments have been to be mentored by my favourite photographers all over the world.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Work-life balance can be very challenging at certain times of the year during my busy season. Most people go into business thinking they will control their time, and there are weeks where I'm working day and night managing multiple tasks, which can also get lonely.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Invest in yourself to become the best in your field early on, set boundaries, and manage your cost of goods, so you know how profitable you are after all expenses have been paid.
