Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in candle-making but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Anna Constantino, Founder of Anberc Candles, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I make natural, vegan, eco-friendly handcrafted small-batch pure soy candles and other home fragrances that caters to people with sensitivities and who prefers natural, simple, and sustainable product.
Tell us about yourself
I started making my own natural soy candles as a hobby to escape from the pressures of work and life's worries. I find comfort and relaxation in the soft flickering light of candles and the powerful evoking scent it emits, especially when juggling my three jobs plus parenting responsibilities got too much. However, making my own candles gives me healing and inspiration...it became my passion. What motivates me each day is knowing that my candles evoke good and positive feelings in others and that it becomes part of everyone's self-care journey.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the loyalty and continued patronage of my repeat customers, as well as the strong support and business relationship I built with other brands I collaborated with.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a small business owner is wearing all the hats of the business. Taking charge of all the areas of the business, such as marketing, production, bookkeeping, customer service, taxes, budgeting, shipping, website listing, social media, etc., can sometimes be overwhelming. Finding the balance and proper time management is totally challenging.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The top 3 tips I can share for anyone wanting to start, run, and grow their business are:
First, you need to have passion, love, and interest in what you're doing. Without this, you will easily quit. Even if you persevere and succeed, without this, you won't be happy.
Second, you need to research a lot and continue learning to improve your craft or your skills.
Third but not least, you need to engage and be open to customer feedback and learn to network with other like-minded people, either within your industry or other related industry. This will give you a lot of growth opportunities, whether in business or personally.
