Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ana McKenna, a US Army veteran, entrepreneur, content creator, and coach, based in Penacook, NH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a content creator and coach focused on helping women in their 40s and beyond live an extraordinary life. As a Service Member in the Army, I started out working with military women transitioning out of service, and since have expanded my reach to women in all phases of life.

Tell us about yourself

I've been working with military families for over 20 years, but in 2019 started to focus on helping military women do what they WANTED to do after their service was over. Health and wellness is a big part of that, particularly for women in their 40s. I started my Youtube channel to help others who may be using weight loss medication to achieve their goals. From there, the interest really exploded, and now I get up every day excited to see how I can help others blossom in every aspect of their lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I own several brick-and-mortar businesses as well, but I think anytime we can really make a positive impact on someone else's day-to-day life so they, in turn, can do more good and help others, that is a win for everyone. I love that people find me approachable and are never afraid to ask me my thoughts on what could help them more.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Definitely time management. My brain is always on fire. I have a hard time separating business from life and being present, but I, too, am a work in progress. I don't know how to relax!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. ONLY ONLY ONLY do what you love. Make sure it fires you up daily. Don't say yes to projects that don't excite you.
  2. Make sure you structure your days. Get into a good rhythm so you can be productive.
  3. Know when to hire help for those tasks you hate doing/don't do well. Get your ego out of the way and acknowledge stuff that isn't in your wheelhouse. (For me, that is any sort of Excel spreadsheet or data entry type work. I also hate doing Canva-type stuff. So, I hired a VA. Best investment EVER.)
  4. PROTECT YOUR social media. My IG got hacked, and I had to start over. Not great for business!
